The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Madras stands out as a unique and exceptional institution within the Indian Institute of Technology ecosystem. The Department uses a holistic systems approach and places strong emphasis on developing student’s quantitative and analytical skills.

As the Director of this esteemed institution, I take immense pride in the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and the dynamic learning environment we foster. The different degrees offered in DoMS and the dual degree courses for B.Tech students sets it apart from other B-schools and is a testament to our commitment to advanced learning.

We believe in nurturing exceptional managerial talents and equipping them with the skills necessary to excel. This is achieved through the dedication of our faculty—adept educators and active researchers contributing to advancements in management practices.

Leading with Purpose

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) is an academic body within the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), an Institution of Eminence. DoMS is strategically located within IITM’s beautiful campus spanning 630 acres, along with 17 other departments covering sciences, humanities, and engineering. This knowledge ecosystem, along with the IIT Madras Research Park, provides a distinct opportunity for aspiring management students to learn and grow beyond the classrooms.

The academy within DoMS focuses on “Management Studies”, whereby our Master of Science and PhD programs contribute to generating new knowledge through research. The faculty members of our Graduate Programs are also leading researchers in their respective fields. The majority of the faculty of DoMS are academically qualified with PhDs and post-doctoral research experience from institutions of national and global reputation.

The department resonates with the strategic vision of IIT Madras and seeks to nurture management professionals to lead India’s economic sectors at different levels. Our MBA program upholds diversity with respect to educational background, industry experience, region, and gender, and has nurtured management professionals who lead in industry ever since the program began in 2001.
