Department Degree Distribution Programme of the Department of Management Studies during59th Convocationof IIT Madras
A total of 168 students from the Department of Management Studies (DoMS) graduated during the 59th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) held on 13th July 2022. The morning session, which included oath-taking by the students in the Student Activity Center was followed by the Departmental Degree Distribution Program (D3P), in the afternoon of Wednesday, 13th July 2022 at 17:00 hours at the IC&SR auditorium, IIT Madras.
The convocation, which was held in physical mode after a gap of two years, was a much-awaited event. For the MBA stream, this was the 20th convocation, with 68 graduands successfully completing the challenging program. 38 graduands from the third batch of EMBA programs, 40 graduands from the fifteenth batch of PGPEX-VLM, 5 graduands from the MS through research program and 17 PhD graduands received were awarded their degrees in the D3P program.
The Chief Guest was Shri L. Ganesh, Chairman of the Rane group. Dr M Thenmozhi, Professor & Head, Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras, presented the department’s Annual Report. Prof. M. Thenmozhi, mentioned the six degree programs offered by DoMS, namely, MBA, EMBA, VLM, IDDD_TechMBA, MS and PhD and added that the department is introducing a new interdisciplinary dual-degree program in quantitative finance from this academic year. She also highlighted that the department has been consistently ranked among the top 15 management institutions by the NIRF from 2019 onwards. Acknowledging the significant contribution of Prof. L. S. Ganesh to the department for more than 34 years, she also congratulated the department faculty for their diligent work and excellent performance in various areas such as cutting-edge research, sponsored research, industrial consultancy projects and international collaborations and awards. She also highlighted the department’s efforts to build alumni network and focus on pursuit of socially relevant projects and activities.
Addressing the graduands, the chief guest, Shri L. Ganesh, Chairman, Rane Group, delivered a highly motivating and engaging speech on the attributes of a successful leader. Starting with the first attribute of focus on the chosen path, he went on to emphasize the need to consider learning as a lifelong pursuit, since continuous learning is the way human beings proceed from knowledge to wisdom. Highlighting other traits such as emotional intelligence/empathy, recognizing and overcoming weaknesses in self, the need to live by a consistent set of values, accepting success with humility and developing the ability to face failures, maintaining a 360 degree perspective of life, ensuring teamwork and collaboration, understanding the need for a long-term vision, cultivating negotiation skills, and believing in the importance of giving back to our country and the society. Congratulating the graduating students, Shri L Ganesh distributed the prizes to the toppers of various streams and degrees to all the graduands.
